Diabetic Eye Care in Wasilla
Diabetic Eye Exams in Wasilla
Diabetes can change your eyes before you notice anything. A yearly diabetic eye exam at Midnight Sun Optometry catches problems early, while there is still time to act.
Why a Yearly Diabetic Exam Matters
Diabetes Can Quietly Harm Your Eyes
High blood sugar damages the small blood vessels in the back of the eye. Early diabetic retinopathy has no pain and no obvious vision change, so the only way to find it is to look.
A diabetic eye exam includes dilation so Dr. Angeles can see your retina clearly and check for bleeding, swelling, and other diabetes-related changes.
Working With Your Doctor
Care Coordinated With Your Team
If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, your primary doctor needs an annual eye report. We send your exam findings to your primary or endocrinologist so your care stays connected.
If we see signs of moderate or advanced retinopathy, we coordinate a referral with a retinal specialist and stay in the loop on your care in the greater Mat-Su Valley.
What to Expect at Your Visit
A Calm, Thorough Diabetic Exam
Plan on a longer visit than a routine exam. We measure your vision, check eye pressure, dilate your pupils, and image the retina. Dr. Angeles walks you through what we see, in plain English.
Most patients come once a year. If your diabetes is recent, poorly controlled, or you already have retinopathy, we may ask you back sooner.
